Indeed, we are committed to providing an environment in which human rights are protected, diversity and inclusion promoted, adequate remuneration guaranteed, work-life balance and animal welfare safeguarded.

Human Rights

The production of the goods distributed by Lidl involves a multiplicity of people all over the world. For this reason, we actively take measures to protect their fundamental rights, applying them to all supply chains.

Diversity & inclusion

Diversity is seen as a strong point: at Lidl people with different backgrounds successfully collaborate. Diversity is therefore a value that, in many respects, allows us to excel and that we actively promote.

Our measures for fair cooperation

PROCACAO

With the PROCACAO agricultural school initiated in 2012, we are committed to fairer and more sustainable cocoa cultivation. As a successful project, PROCACAO was transferred to independent administration in 2019 after eight years of funding. To date, 18.000 cocoa farmers and their families have benefited from the project. ACT

As from November 2019, Lidl has joined the international initiative "Action, Collaboration, Transformation" (ACT) in order to promote subsistence wages for textile industry workers.

Cotton made in Africa

Lidl complies with its corporate due diligence on social and environmental standards in the supply chain and has been a partner of the “Cotton made in Africa” initiative since February 2020. Thereby Lidl is demonstrating its commitment to socially and ecologically sustainable cotton cultivation in Africa. Further information is available here.

PURE Projekt Schulung

PURE Project

For Lidl, sustainability and the maintenance of high environmental and safety standards are vital. So much so, that, in 2017, Lidl, together with GIZ (Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit), the German international cooperation agency for development, created and launched the PURE training project.

At Lidl, as a retailer, we distribute food, consumer goods and non-food products within global supply chains.

Gender equality

Gender equality is a key objective in our human rights strategy, which is why we have published a new Gender Equality Purchasing Policy in the supply chain. Find out more about it!

Eggs

We are committed to increasingly sustainable farming practices for laying hens. We have entered into a commitment that by the end of 2019, all fresh eggs and those contained in the fixed Lidl-branded products in the assortment come exclusively from hens raised on the ground, outdoors or from organic farming.

Cocoa

We have developed a purchasing policy for cocoa, in order to support agriculture that is increasingly sustainable from an environmental, social and economic point of view, promoting increasingly responsible cultivation methods, respect for human rights and fair pay for farmers.
