FOOD SAVING BAG

FOOD SAVING BAG

We reaffirm our commitment to combating food waste with the launch of our “Food Saving Bag”, a project that restores value to fruits and vegetables that are imperfectly shaped, but are still perfectly good and safe to eat, or with slightly damaged packaging. The initiative, which involves all our 10 local Lidl stores, will offer our customers the opportunity to join the fight against food waste by purchasing these special bags of perfectly edible fruits and vegetables that do not meet our commercial standards anymore.

The Food Saving Bags are handpicked daily by store staff after a careful selection of products and are placed inside a dedicated cart in the area behind the checkouts. The number of bags available at each store varies depending on the daily availability of suitable products. Each Food Saving Bag contains 4 kg of fruits and vegetables and can be purchased at a discounted price of 3 euro. For every bag purchased, €0.50 will be donated to Caritas Malta, a Maltese NGO providing food and essential services to people in need.

The introduction of the Food Saving Bags is part of the wider "Too Good To Waste" project that we launched at the end of 2020 and includes the application of targeted discounts in order to encourage the sale of products that are close to the expiration date. This allows consumers to act responsibly and, at the same time, to save money. By choosing our Food Saving Bags and products close to expiration you can help us reduce food waste.
