A better tomorrow – protecting the climate

The consequences of climate change are becoming increasingly apparent. As a leading company in the retail sector, we are aware of our responsibility for CO2 emissions. Climate protection is, in fact, very important for all our activities, from the production of our products to their display in the store. Within our assortment, we offer an increasing number of environmentally friendly products. Along our value chain we follow the principle "Avoid, reduce and compensate". From an energy point of view, for example, we are making the gradual transition to natural refrigerants, while, thanks to photovoltaic systems, we produce a part of energy to meet our needs and the remaining part is covered by renewable energy sources.

Since August 2020, the Schwarz Group, of which Lidl is a member, has officially joined the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). Following the comprehensive assessment of the climate balance and the Carbon Footprint analysis, the Schwarz Group defined its climate protection objectives, which were validated and officially approved by SBTi.

Behind our commitment are climate objectives based on scientific bases and oriented to the methodologies of the Science Based Target Initiative. In addition, we ask our suppliers to respect important climate protection objectives, providing them with assistance and guidance if necessary.
