A better tomorrow – health at the centre

Eating habits affect people’s health. As a leading company in the retail trade, we take responsibility for ensuring a healthy and safe working environment for our employees and for offering our customers an increasingly sustainable range.

At Lidl, we care about the health of our employees and customers, which is why we support the development of projects that promote healthy lifestyles.

WORKING TOGETHER WITH OUR PARTNER WWF

What we eat and how it is produced has a major impact on both climate and nature, and through our choices, we can drive meaningful change. That’s why, together with WWF, we have further developed our Conscious Nutrition Strategy as part of our joint mission to provide you with more sustainable choices.

As part of this strategy, we’ve set ambitious targets across all 31 Lidl countries with stores, using the WWF methodology wwf-planet-based-diets-retailer-methodology.pdf for healthy and sustainable diets to assess and guide our progress.

One way to improve both your health and the environment is to increase the proportion of plants in your diet relative to animal products. While meat, fish, eggs, and dairy are valuable sources of nutrition, it can be beneficial to moderate their consumption. For example, you can incorporate more plant-based alternatives such as legumes, nuts, seeds, and a variety of vegetables and fruits into your meals.

Good to know

Europe consumes an average of about 37 kilograms of sugar per capita each year. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the daily dose of added sugar per capita should not exceed 50 grams.  For a healthy diet it is recommended to reduce this intake up to 25 grams per capita per day.
