SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS

Thanks to a continuous process of analysis and adaptation we aim to create an assortment that is increasingly sustainable from an ethical, social and environmental point-of-view, within the whole supply chain. Given that the majority of the products on sale in-stores carry our own brand name, our actions on the assortment structure are quite impactful.

This approach is highlighted through tangible commitments made public in the form of position papers; these papers include requirements such as the sale of certified products respecting social and environmental necessities. These purchasing policies guide our procurement choices of raw materials, for all assortment categories, in a transversal manner.

In order to promote a healthy diet and the protection of the environment in which we operate, we are committed to creating an increasingly sustainable assortment. To achieve this goal we make use of renowned certifications guaranteeing the environmental and social sustainability of our products.

We also offer food alternatives such as gluten-free, lactose-free and organic products to meet all customer requirements.

We are also committed to providing  clear and transparent information with the aim of encouraging informed purchasing choices.

Sustainability certifications

Own brand products that carry seals offer consumers additional guidance and serve as proof of our high quality and product standards

Further labels show the distinctive characteristics of our food and non-food items. Aside from a good fit and a high-quality make, the certifications guarantee skin tolerance, absence of harmful  substances, or ecological methods of production etc., depending on the label. In addition, electronics, household appliances, toys and furniture are not only thoroughly tested by Lidl itself but also by independent institutes.

The initiative aims to help smallholder farmers in Africa to improve their living and working conditions by helping them to help themselves - i.e. through trade instead of donations - and to promote environmental protection in a targeted manner. In on-site training courses, the farmers learn efficient and sustainable farming methods that help them to achieve better yields and to protect the environment and their health. This is made possible by the contribution of responsible textile companies as partners of Cotton made in Africa.

PEFC (PROGRAMME Text_FOR THE ENDORSEMENT OF FOREST CERTIFICATION SCHEMES)

PEFC is a non-profit international non-governmental organization (NGO) whose objective is the sustainable management of forests and the traceability of its products; from the forest to the final consumer.

The brand is found on products deriving from forests (in materials such as paper, cardboard or wood). To obtain this certification, the processing companies undergo a verification procedure by an independent body. The Fairtrade-Raw Material-Label

The Fairtrade raw material label refers to a single fairly grown and traded ingredient, namely cocoa, sugar, fruit juice, tea or cotton. If an ingredient with quantity compensation is used, this ingredient is marked with an arrow.
This means that only the ingredient indicated in the label in the mixed product is Fairtrade-certified - for example, the quantity of cocoa or sugar required for a chocolate bar was purchased under Fairtrade conditions. The Fairtrade standards in the producing countries will not change - the cooperatives will receive stable minimum prices and premiums. The checks are carried out by FLOCERT.
