Lidl Malta Tackles Food Waste with Innovative Initiative

We are extremely committed to sustainability, and we have taken a significant step towards reducing food waste in the country. The company's innovative Feed It Back initiative aims to divert surplus food items to those in need through a partnership with the Malta Food Bank Foundation.

Since its launch in March, the Feed It Back project has already made a substantial impact. Over 12 tonnes of food have been donated, providing over 45,500 meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity. This initiative highlights the company’s unwavering dedication to social responsibility and environmental sustainability.

The Feed It Back programme involves collecting surplus food items from Lidl Malta stores, including bakery goods, dry products, and any fruit and vegetables that do not go in the Food Saving Bags. These items are then carefully packaged and collected by the Malta Food Bank Foundation for distribution to those who need it most.

Currently, five Lidl Malta stores are participating in the Feed It Back initiative. However, the company's ambitious goal is to expand the programme to all ten of its stores across the country. This will significantly increase the amount of food that can be used for good and provide much-needed support to vulnerable communities.

Owen Micallef, Lidl Malta Director, expressed his pride in the initiative's achievements. "The Feed It Back project is a testament to our commitment to minimising food waste and ensuring that no one goes hungry," he stated. "We are incredibly grateful to the Malta Food Bank Foundation and all the volunteers involved for their dedication and hard work."

Lidl Malta's Feed It Back initiative serves as a shining example of how businesses can make a positive difference in their communities. By tackling food waste and supporting those in need, the company is not only contributing to a more sustainable future but also fostering a sense of compassion and solidarity.
