Standard ISO 50001

Efficiency target for our Company: Since the end of 2016, Lidl Malta has been fully ISO 50001 certified. SGE (Sistema di Gestione dell’Energia, Energy Management System) certification guarantees Lidl Malta’s conformity with current international standards.

Sustainable products

As a company we strive for greater sustainability across our business and aim to offer an ever more sustainable assortment, ensuring high quality standards and promoting healthy eating and conscious consumption. To achieve this we source in a more responsible manner and use recognised certifications that guarantee the environmental and social sustainability of our products.

Efficient water management

Malta is one of the top 10 countries in the world subject to water scarcity due to its geographical location, the phenomenon is completely natural.

Taste & well-being

In order to satisfy the needs of our customers, three specialised product lines have been introduced to enhance our assortment: “Bio Organic”, “Free From” and “My Best Veggie”.

Giving back to our Society

In 2018 each shop took on one CSR project each, however, colleagues were so enthused that these became two projects for each shop in 2019. The NGOs touched varied, from animal sanctuaries to inclusive care foundations, with the aim of helping as many societal remits as possible.

10 year anniversary donations

The company celebrated its 10 Year Anniversary by donating the total sum of €10.000 worth of Lidl vouchers to 5 local NGOs.

The President’s Solidarity Fun Run

For a number of years the Company also sponsored The President’s Solidarity Fun Run; another national event followed by thousands and loved by the majority of the population.

Puttinu Cares Football & Volleyball Marathon

Puttinu Cares Football & Volleyball Marathon

In 2019 Lidl Malta was the main sponsor of the 15th edition of the Puttinu Cares Football & Volleyball Marathon for the eighth time. The highly awaited event included a jam-packed program with various shows, local talent, animations and a fun park for the little ones. Proceeds of the event go towards the Puttinu Cares Foundation who offer an all-inclusive approach of care to families affected by cancer.

INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS

Fresh water

For Lidl, clean water is not a challenge for the future; we are already acting now to protect this vital resource. Lidl is aware of its responsibility and therefore considers the use of water across the entire value chain. Lidl would also like to sensitize its customers to the topic of water and shows how everyone can contribute to saving water.

GlobalG.A.P. Biodiversity

Lidl is developing the first certification for biodiversity-friendly conventional agricultural practices. Our aim is to make conventional agriculture more biodiversity-friendly.

Lidl Detox Commitment

Lidl Detox Commitment

In December 2014 Lidl was the first food retailer to take part in Greenpeace’s Detox Campaign. Lidl has the aim of completely eliminating the use of 11 chemical groups, which Greenpeace has defined as forbidden, in the production of its own textile and shoe brands by 2020, or replacing them with safe substances. The central element of corporate responsibility is the sustainable purchase of raw materials.

REset Plastic

Established in 2018, the REset Plastic strategy is a big step towards a world without waste. Its all-round approach ranges from non-use, to design, recycling and disposal, up to innovation and awareness. This reduces the use of plastic and creates closed cycles.

Science Based Targets

Lidl Malta is taking its efforts to protect the climate to the next level and making science-based targets the basis of its climate targets. Find all the relevant information here.

Lidl strives to improve its textile and footwear products on a daily basis, in line with high standards of quality and safety, and to ensure more sustainability, both environmentally and socially.

Women's Empowerment Principles

Lidl continues to promote equality within itsown company as well as along thevalue chain. By joining the United Nation’s Women’s Empowerment Principles,Lidl is strengthening its engagement in promoting women within the company.

Aware of our responsibility as a retailer, we are continuously working on improving the sustainability of our key commodities and ingredients, by approaching the environmental and social issues that are related to their production. To achieve this we have defined purchasing policies, publicly made available in this section; these guide our work.
