Aware of our responsibility towards humankind and nature, we at Lidl Malta try to reduce the impact of our operations on the environment every day.
In keeping with our motto, "A better tomorrow," Lidl Malta is committed, through a new purchasing policy, to promote more sustainable fishing with the purpose of protecting fish species and marine ecosystems. Our new purchasing policy, which affects both wild caught fish and aquaculture fish, is guaranteed by our close collaboration with suppliers and the requirement of certifications for fish products.
The Lidl group is proud to offer its customers a variety of frozen, fresh and canned fish with MSC, Friend of the Sea and/or Dolphin Safe certifications for wild fish, or the ASC certification for aquaculture products. Lidl Malta is committed to continually increase the number of certified products on offer for our customers. By the end of 2020, a selection of products, in large part certified and sustainably caught with respect for the environment and preserving both fish species and the human rights of workers in the fishing industry, are available in our stores.
With the "Position paper on the sustainable purchase of fish, shellfish and their by-products", Lidl Malta makes its commitment to purchase fish and shellfish more sustainably public. The document will be updated regularly in order to ensure transparency and truthfulness.
