Human rights in the supply chain
As a commercial enterprise, Lidl markets food, non-food and near-food items produced in global supply chains. We are responsible for ensuring labor law standards and human conditions along the entire value chain. Our aim is to bring about improvements in our supply chains through targeted intervention, thereby realizing our strategic focus of "acting fairly". In order to continuously improve the living and working conditions of the people who work for us, we have formulated a human rights strategy, consisting of four pillars: keeping track of impacts, safeguarding standards, expanding fair trade, and driving change.
Through this strategy, we ensure that human rights measures are implemented in a structured way within the Company, in compliance with the defined standards. In developing our strategy, we focused on high-risk supply chains based on our risk analysis. We have also considered the expectations of our clients and society, the priorities of NGOs, and the regulatory and scientific developments.
Our commitment is aimed at protecting people from negative impacts at work, as well as to defend workplace-related human rights. Based on our strategy and risk analysis, we have identified the following workplace-related human rights as significant in our supply chains:
- No forced labour
- No child labour
- Freedom of association
- Fair pay and incomes
- No discrimination
- Safety in the workplace
