Our Local Health Initiatives

Early detection and health education save lives. At Lidl Malta, we are proud of our established relationship with the Action for Breast Cancer Foundation, working together on key initiatives over the years to support public health and raise awareness. By combining community outreach with internal employee initiatives, we aim to highlight the importance of early detection and preventative healthcare. Through this partnership, we have extended awareness into the wider community by hosting joint educational sessions at the University of Malta and MCAST, alongside providing financial support to the NGO—including a €5,000 donation presented in October 2025. Equally, the wellbeing of our workforce is a central priority. To support our team's health, we have offered dedicated initiatives for our staff, such as voluntary awareness workshops and free health screenings, including lab tests for male employees as well as mammograms and ultrasounds for female employees. By providing these periodic health checks and educational opportunities, we support both our team and the local community in taking proactive steps toward long-term health. 

Mental health is just as vital as physical health. To foster a supportive and empathetic workplace culture, Lidl Malta partnered with the Richmond Foundation in 2025 to deliver targeted mental health workshops for our management team. Designed specifically to equip leaders with practical awareness rather than clinical expertise, these sessions focused on recognizing the early signs of mental health struggles and learning how to offer meaningful, everyday support. The aim was not to turn managers into therapists, but to empower them to act as compassionate first points of contact—ensuring they can listen effectively, reduce stigma, and guide team members toward professional resources whenever needed. Through this initiative, we continue to prioritize a safe, understanding work environment where our employees feel valued, heard, and supported. 

Advancing healthcare and medical research is essential for creating a healthier future for our society. Over the years, Lidl Malta has partnered with the Research, Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT) of the University of Malta to support groundbreaking medical and oncology research. Through our seasonal campaigns - including our Cien summer promotions and festive Deluxe range initiatives - we donate a portion of sales directly to the trust. These contributions help fund state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, vital cancer research, and specialized training for local scientists right here in Malta. By inviting our customers to contribute through their everyday purchases, we proudly work alongside RIDT to invest in long-term medical solutions and strengthen local healthcare innovation.

At Lidl Malta, we believe that every child deserves access to the food they need to learn, grow, and thrive, which is why we proudly support Nourishing Young Minds, an initiative led by the St Jeanne Antide Foundation. Through this collaboration, we donate fresh, balanced food products directly to families and children facing socio-economic challenges across our islands. Proper nutrition is foundational to childhood development, as daily access to wholesome food directly impacts cognitive function, helping children stay focused, energetic, and engaged throughout the school day. Establishing balanced eating habits early in life also protects against nutrient deficiencies and supports long-term physical health. True health promotion relies on removing the financial barriers that make healthy choices difficult. By contributing nutritious food to the foundation’s initiative, we provide practical support to vulnerable families, helping to reduce health inequities, support educational performance, and make balanced nutrition accessible across local communities. 

Compassionate care and social support are vital when families face critical health challenges. For over a decade, Lidl Malta has maintained a dedicated partnership with Puttinu Cares, a local cancer support support group that provides holistic care and free accommodation to families with children needing specialized medical treatment in the UK. Every year, we actively support the annual Good Friday Night Walk - a flagship community event that brings thousands together in solidarity - by providing financial contributions and practical logistics to fuel the walkers. Over the past ten years, our regular corporate donations have directly aided the foundation's expansion, helping fund essential housing projects near hospitals in London so that Maltese families can stay together without financial strain during difficult times. Through this enduring commitment, we proudly support Puttinu Cares in offering hope, dignity, and practical relief to those navigating serious pediatric and adult illnesses.
